Well, as I wrote recently, we’ve been plagued with a lot of computer problems lately here at Resolution and the most recent problem is that the word a day app on my phone has stopped working. So, I’m trying to figure out what to do with that. I can certainly use a different app or something. I have a feeling that it may be scaled back to “Word a Week” though. I had bit off almost more than I could chew there; it was almost one of those situations at the steak house where some good samaritan would have to perform the Heimlich maneuver on me. Perhaps that what all these technical problems amount to. So, stay tuned fans of cartoons based on obscure words! (That means you, Rob). Of course, our pigeon detective story “Pigeon Toe & Clubfoot” continues on it’s weekly schedule as well. I just posted episode 10. Check it out! There’s also plans to start releasing pages from an upcoming release on the website as well. Things are happening here at Resolution, people!

Whew!
So last week my computer died on me. Dead, kaput, nada… “stick a fork in me, I’m done” kinda stuff. And I had all my “Pigeon Toe & Clubfoot” stuff in that computer, e.g. scripts, flatted pages, lettered pages. I also had my breakdowns for future “Layfield” stories, all the stuff for “PIECES”, all the “FH2T” stuff… basically, I had everything I have ever worked on or was planning to work on in that computer.
And for anyone that knows me… you know how haphazard I am about having back-ups saved somewhere. Sure, I’ll save some stuff on a flash drive, but other things… not so much.
So when my computer crashed, all I could think was, “Oh my God! This can’t be happening”. But alas, it was. And you know what the worst thing was? I had just spent way too much money buying 80′s songs from the iTunes store, and now those songs were lost to me – ’cause I’m too cheap to buy an iPod. I just buy the songs and listen to ‘em on my computer.
But then… an amazing thing happened. I broke out my screwdriver and said to myself, “Self, come hell or high water, you will fix this computer!” And so I did.
I’ve never been the handiest guy with tools (or computers), but when it came time to “put up or shut up”, I’m proud to say that I “put up”.
And now I get to listen to all my 80′s songs again. And I even have a new pick for “best song ever”. But you’ll have to wait till my next blog to find out what it is. Is the anticipation killing you?

yawing not yawning (I hope)
Hi everyone, today’s word is “yawing”. I first learned about this word when I was a kid and was reading about the space shuttle Columbia. Man, was that thing cool. I totally wanted to be an astronaut. Of course, that was before I realized how hard it was to be an astronaut. Now, the space shuttle program is ending. Do kids even want to be astronauts these days?

The worst thing about yesterday
I can’t believe I didn’t catch my typo. That drives me crazy. Anyway, I hope you like today’s cartoon. It is really hard to try to draw computer image of the western United States with little dots to represent iphone users. I think I pretty much failed at that. Oh well. Live and learn.

Ho ho ho
Hi everyone! Today’s word is “largesse”.
When I was penciling in what I wanted for this one on the BART train yesterday, I had panels 1 and 3 clear in my mind; but 2 and 4 were real hazy. I think it definitely shows in the finished product. Having a clear idea of what I want to draw seems to be the biggest deciding factor between a drawing I like and one that’s “meh”. Of course, there’s plenty of times that I can clearly visualize what I would like the finished drawing to look like and it never translates from mind to hand.
I start finals this week and can’t wait to have a little bit more time to draw. For one thing, the lead time I have on Pigeon Toe and Clubfoot is quickly evaporating with the weekly schedule and my usual procrastination.
Enjoy!

Brrr! Summer must be almost here…
‘Cause it’s so cold. Here in sunny Berkeley, CA we’re really close to San Francisco; of where someone (not Mark Twain) said “the coldest winter I ever spent was summer in San Francisco”. Hence, I can tell the summer is on its way today as I look out into the gloom.
Today’s word is “nanism”. In the cartoon I have introduced one of my favorite bits of comic “vocabulary” – the “plop” reaction shot were all we see are the feet of the person that is having such a strong reaction that they’ve fainted or something (I’ve never quite figured that part out). Anyway, Peter Bagge used it a good amount and I’ve always thought it was a good trick. Enjoy!

“Lost in the Supermarket”
OK… so after listening to my iTunes purchases again, I am now of the mind that maybe “Lost in the Supermarket” by The Clash could possibly be the best song ever.
I mean, how can a song with lyrics like “I wasn’t born so much as I fell out” and “Long distant callers make long distant calls” not be the best song ever?

Mama mia!
Yesterday was Mothers Day (at least here in the United States, I don’t know about elsewhere?). My mom has one of the most amazing vocabularies. I bet she already knows every single one of the words that we’ve had a cartoon for so far. Thanks mom for making me look things up in the dictionary all through my childhood. Obviously something stuck with me.
Today’s word is “kudos”. An interesting word. Notice that it is not the plural of “kudo”. Kudos to all of you for making the excellent choice of checking out these cartoons. I hope you enjoy.
