Pigeon Toe and Clubfoots Secret Origin

I think it was a Tuesday… I was walking home from breakfast from my local “greasy spoon” diner when I saw a pigeon actually walking pigeon toed. I chuckled a bit at the irony.

About a half block later, I came across another pigeon that was missing a foot….

On the rest of my walk home I came up with a ridiculous story involving two pigeon detectives. When I got home I emailed my pigeon story to Scott. Now, keep in mind…this was NEVER actually supposed to be a real project (or so I thought). I was just bored, and when I’m bored I email Scott a lot of stupid things. For God’s sake, I named P.T. & CF’s nemesis Camel Toe! Who would think I was serious? Well, Scott thought I was serious. He was ready and willing to start working on P.T & CF. And, funnily enough, he said we should change Camel Toe’s name.

I balked at the idea of doing Pigeon Toe & Clubfoot for real. I mean, doesn’t it seem like it would fall into the category of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Miami Mice, and all those other 80’s comics of the same vein? So I steadfastly held my ground against working on P.T. & CF.

A couple months later we had a table at the APE convention here in San Francisco. Scott had brought an original picture he had drawn, entitled Sgt. Pigeon (he brought this picture mostly due to the fact that we only had one comic out at the time and we were trying to fill the table up with anything and everything we could think of). Sgt. Pigeon had nothing at all to do with P.T. & CF….long story short, a friend of ours always joked about naming a band Sgt. Pigeon, so Scott drew up a picture of the said Sgt. to send to him.

And you know what? EVERYBODY loved that pigeon! Almost everyone who saw it wanted to buy it. Alas, it was not for sale. I’ll be the first to admit that I’m stubborn and thick headed, but when I saw how much people seemed to love pigeons, I re-thought my position concerning P.T. & CF.

Scott and I passed our down time at APE coming up with character sketches and a basic plot. And we’ve been working on P.T. & CF ever since. And I gotta say, I am soooo happy we decided to do this for real. This has been the most fun I’ve had writing a comic.

Both Scott and I are huge fans of noir stories (Dashiell Hammett is the man!), so it’s a lot of fun for us to do our strange, odd, weird, hopefully amusing take on this genre.

I hope you have as much fun reading the tales of Pigeon Toe & Clubfoot as I have writing them.

Brian
